Chandigarh, May 27 – Haryana Health, Medical Education and Research and AYUSH Minister, Ms. Arti Singh Rao on Wednesday honoured the Medical Superintendent of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, PGIMS Rohtak, State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTO) Haryana and the organ transplant team by presenting them certificates of appreciation in Chandigarh.
Appreciating Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kundan Mittal, the entire SOTO Haryana team and transplant surgeons, she said that due to their tireless efforts, Haryana is emerging as a model state in the field of organ donation.
Ms. Arti Singh Rao congratulated Vice Chancellor Dr. H.K. Aggarwal, dedicated doctors, surgeons, the SOTO Haryana team, nursing staff and the entire medical team for successfully carrying out organ transplants from brain-dead donors. She said this noble work is saving many lives.
The Health Minister specially mentioned the case in which the PGIMS Rohtak team transported a kidney through an Army helicopter to the Army Command Hospital in Chandimandir. She said timely transplant helped save the life of a soldier. She added that the coordination between the medical team, administration and armed forces reflects the true spirit of service to humanity. This is not just organ donation, it is service to the nation, she said.
Ms. Arti Singh Rao said that the team led by Dr. Aggarwal at PGIMS has created a new record by successfully conducting five organ donations in the last two months. She also paid tribute to all families who agreed to organ donation.
She said Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi has also described organ donation as the greatest donation during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. Inspired by this, awareness about organ donation in Haryana is increasing rapidly.
Ms. Arti Singh Rao said that every year lakhs of people in India lose their lives while waiting for organs. One “yes” from the family of a brain-dead person can bring hope and save up to eight lives.
