Haryana Sets New Power Consumption Record; UHBVN and DHBVN Successfully Manage Rising Electricity Demand – Anil Vij

Chandigarh, July 19: Haryana Energy Minister Sh. Anil Vij said that despite the continuously rising demand for electricity across the State, the Haryana Government has achieved a significant milestone by ensuring quality and uninterrupted power supply to consumers without any major disruption. He informed that on July 18, 2026, the combined electricity consumption of the State’s two power distribution utilities—Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN)—reached a record 3135.42 Lakh units, reflecting both the growing power requirement in Haryana and the robustness of its power distribution system.

UHBVN Recorded 1371.72 Lakh Units and DHBVN 1763.70 Lakh Units of Electricity Consumption – Vij

The Energy Minister said that UHBVN recorded electricity consumption of 137.172 million units (1,371.72 lakh units), while DHBVN registered 176.370 million units (1,763.70 lakh units) on July 18. Compared to the corresponding day last year, electricity consumption increased by 25.85% in the UHBVN area (against 1089.95 Lakh units) and by 37.56% in the DHBVN area (against 1282.10 Lakh units). He further informed that within DHBVN, the Delhi Zone recorded 106.553 million units (1,065.53 lakh units), while the Hisar Zone recorded 69.817 million units (698.17 lakh units). In UHBVN, the Rohtak Zone consumed 79.366 million units (793.66 lakh units), whereas the Panchkula Zone recorded 57.806 million units (578.06 lakh units).

Sh. Anil Vij said that electricity demand under UHBVN continued to rise steadily throughout July. Daily consumption stood at 1243.81 Lakh units on July 1, 1071.09 Lakh units on July 2, 1188.13 Lakh units on July 3, 1293.74 Lakh units on July 4, 1226.43 Lakh units on July 5, 1187.54 Lakh units on July 6, 1192.39 Lakh units on July 7 and 1039.82 Lakh units on July 8. Consumption was 945.64 Lakh units on July 9 and 861.51 Lakh units on July 10. With changing weather conditions, demand picked up again, reaching 952.86 Lakh units on July 11, 1046.40 Lakh units on July 12, 1152.63 Lakh units on July 13, 1217.37 Lakh units on July 14, 1285.58 Lakh units on July 15, 1293.91 Lakh units on July 16 and 1309.12 Lakh units on July 17. On July 18, consumption climbed to a record 1371.72 Lakh units, the highest daily consumption recorded during the month.

DHBVN Also Recorded a Historic Consumption of 1763.70 Lakh Units on July 18

Similarly, Sh. Vij said that electricity demand under DHBVN also remained consistently high during July. Consumption stood at 1696.20 Lakh units on July 1, 1436.58 Lakh units on July 2, 1503.26 Lakh units on July 3, 1590.97 Lakh units on July 4, 1485.43 Lakh units on July 5, 1527.94 Lakh units on July 6, 1540.21 Lakh units on July 7 and 1358.13 Lakh units on July 8. Subsequently, consumption reached 1363.05 Lakh units on July 9, 1434.25 Lakh units on July 10, 1468.75 Lakh units on July 11, 1520.41 Lakh units on July 12, 1601.07 Lakh units on July 13, 1642.18 Lakh units on July 14, 1654.40 Lakh units on July 15, 1686.40 Lakh units on July 16 and 1732.16 Lakh units on July 17. On July 18, electricity consumption rose further to 1763.70 Lakh units, the highest daily demand recorded in the month so far.
Adequate Electricity Being Supplied to Every Category of Consumers – Vij

The Energy Minister said that electricity supply is being maintained in a balanced manner across agriculture, rural domestic, urban and industrial sectors. On July 18, UHBVN supplied 413.43 Lakh units to the agricultural sector, 299.14 Lakh units to rural domestic consumers, 385.59 Lakh units to urban consumers, and 273.56 Lakh units to the industrial sector. Similarly, DHBVN supplied 357.05 Lakh units to agriculture, 356.86 Lakh units to rural domestic consumers, 693.53 Lakh units to urban consumers, and 356.26 Lakh units to industries.  He said these figures clearly demonstrate that the Government has ensured balanced and adequate electricity supply to all consumer categories without any discrimination.

Power Supply Remained Fully Under Control Despite Extreme Heat and Rising Industrial Activity – Vij

Sh. Vij said that electricity demand has been increasing continuously due to intense summer conditions, higher agricultural requirements and expanding industrial activities. Despite this, the Government has ensured uninterrupted power supply through advance planning, adequate power procurement, strengthening of the transmission network and modern load management systems. He emphasized that the Government’s objective is not merely to supply electricity but to provide reliable, quality and timely power to every consumer.

Government Continuously Strengthening Power Infrastructure to Meet Future Demand – Vij

The Energy Minister said that the Haryana Government is continuously expanding its generation, transmission and distribution capacity to meet future electricity demand. New substations, additional transformers, high-capacity transmission lines and smart technologies are being implemented rapidly to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the coming years. He added that the State is also promoting solar energy, green energy and modern power management systems, thereby further strengthening Haryana’s energy security.

He informed that both power distribution utilities are ensuring uninterrupted and quality electricity supply through effective power management, continuous monitoring and prompt fault rectification. All field officers have been directed to maintain round-the-clock surveillance of substations, feeders and the distribution network and to ensure immediate resolution of any technical fault. Additional transformers, equipment and manpower have been deployed wherever required to prevent inconvenience to consumers. He further stated that both UHBVN and DHBVN remain fully committed to providing reliable and quality electricity to the people of Haryana, with field teams remaining operational 24×7 to handle any emergency.

Appeal to Consumers for Judicious Use of Electricity

Sh. Anil Vij appealed to the people of Haryana to use electricity responsibly, stating that power is a valuable national resource. He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary consumption, adopt energy-efficient appliances and install solar power systems to actively participate in the energy conservation movement.
The Energy Minister also appreciated the dedicated efforts of officers, engineers and employees of the Energy Department, saying that their commitment and coordinated efforts enabled the State to maintain smooth power supply even during record demand. He reaffirmed that the Haryana Government remains fully committed to providing every consumer with reliable, quality and uninterrupted electricity in the future as well.
